The Victoria Racing Club has officially launched the 2024 Melbourne Cup Carnival at Flemington, ahead of drinks companies unveiling their extravagant marquees in The Birdcage.
The 2024 Melbourne Cup Carnival will begin with Penfolds Victoria Derby Day on Saturday 2 November, followed by Lexus Melbourne Cup Day on Tuesday 5 November, Crown Oaks Day on Thursday 7 November and TAB Champions Stakes Day on Saturday 9 November.
VRC Chairman Neil Wilson said: “Across the four days, we’ll see 37 races carrying prizemoney of $30 million, with eight Group 1 races headlined by the centrepiece, the 164th running of the $8.56 million Lexus Melbourne Cup.
“Visitors will also be entertained by 140 performers including the likes of Anastacia, Empire of the Sun, Ronan Keating, Sophie Ellis-Bextor and the Temper Trap.”
The Birdcage has become synonymous with high-end hospitality and a touch of celebrity. It’s the place to see and be seen during the Melbourne Cup Carnival.
Each year, the unveiling of the marquees is a highly anticipated event and 2024 is no exception. Each year, brands strive to create innovative and impressive marquees, ensuring that The Birdcage continues to be the ultimate destination for a luxurious race-day experience.
This year’s theme is “Rendezvous” and the drinks brands featured will include G.H Mumm, Furphy, Don Julio and Penfolds.
G.H. Mumm will unveiled its largest Melbourne Cup marquee to date, with a ‘Now Boarding’ theme.
A nod to luxury travel, the marquee will incorporate a structure that’s never been seen before in the exclusive enclosure. Overlooking the Birdcage and track, an eye-catching curved clear tower forms part of the facade, reminiscent of the world’s most iconic travel hubs.

Embracing the spirit of great Australian storytelling, the Furphy Marquee combines the brand’s rich heritage with the cheeky, playful spirit that Australians know and love.
Guests can stroll down memory lane with framed tributes paying tribute to some iconic Victorian Furphy pubs. At the top of the stairs, a timeline pays homage to the Furphy family’s legacy, showcasing its journey from the 1800s to today.
